Oyarbide, Lekuona and Lanz extend their contract with Bizkaia-Durango

2015-11-27

The Bizkaia-Durango UCI Women’s Team keeps setting up the 2016 road season, year in which the team will try to repeat and even improve the great results achieved in 2015. One more year, the Bizkaian team will bet on the future of Basque cycling, keeping a solid squad and consolidating Basque young riders in the elite of international women’s cycling.

For Lourdes Oyarbide (Egino, 1994), this will be the fourth season riding for Bizkaia-Durango—this will also be her last season as an under-23 rider. During 2015 she was able to show her big progression, winning the U23 overall classification in the Spanish Cup thanks to her lead since the beginning of the competition. She ended up the Spanish Cup in second place in the elite classification. Among her best results we can also find both the elite Road Race and Time Trial titles she got on the Basque Championships earlier this year.

Lierni Lekuona (Lezo, 1995) will wear the Bizkaia-Durango colors for the third year in-a-row after a consistent 2015 season in which she improved her results in the Spanish and Basque Cup races, as well as in the international calendar, being one of the top-placed riders of the team in hard, hilly stage races such as the Euskal Emakumeen Bira or the Route de France.

Also, Paula Lanz (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 1996) will compete for the Basque squad again in 2016 after being one of the most important pieces of the team during the successful 2015 season, in which she showed her great team-working and her commitment with the team.

Bizkaia-Durango will announce in the following days more contract extensions and new signings for the 2016 season, that will be the 13rd year for the team in the UCI category.
