Olga Shekel, European runner-up, will ride for Bizkaia-Durango

2015-12-23

Olga Shekel (Ukraine, 1994) is the eighth announced signing for the Bizkaia-Durango UCI Women’s Team 2016 season, after having signed previously the Basques Irati Idirin and Naia Leonet, the South Africans Heidi Dalton and Lise Olivier, the Dutch Roos Hoogeboom, the Mauritian Kim Le Court and the Colombian Andreina Rivera.

Shekel, that will be in her last season as an U23 rider, is the current European Time Trial runner-up, after getting that silver medal back in August in Tartu (Estonia), where she was at just eight seconds from the gold medal. Also, she was fourth in the elite Ukrainian National Championship — both in the time trial and in the road race — and she was selected for the World Championships that took place in Richmond.

Olga is a girl with a huge physical potential whose strenghts are sprinting and time-trialing. She’s very young, so she can still improve a lot her skills. I think she will be key for the team — it will be very important to make her show all her potential," says Agurtzane Elorriaga, Bizkaia-Durango sports director.
