Bizkaia-Durango starts the season in Belgium in the new ALÉ kit

2016-02-26

The Bizkaia-Durango UCI Women’s Team will start this Saturday the 2016 road season in the first classic races of the year. These three races the Basque team will ride within the next five days will all take place in Belgium.

On Saturday 27th, the Bizkaian team will be in Ghent racing the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, a really hard 1.1 UCI race. On its 124km-long course we can find five cobbled sections, as well as nine hills. On Sunday, Bizkaia-Durango will move to the town of Tielt-Winge for the Omloop van het Hageland, also classed 1.1 in the UCI ranks. This second race will have a 129 km course, not as hard as Saturday’s, but a final climb to the Roeselberg — plus all the cobbled sections — will turn the race into a new hard challenge. Three days later, on Wednesday, the team will race Le Samyn des Dames, a 1.2 UCI race with a 112km-long course with a difficult final section.

In these three races that open the new season, Bizkaia-Durango will be represented by a young squad composed of five U23 riders (the Basques Lourdes Oyarbide, Lierni Lekuona, Paula Lanz and Irati Idirin and the Cantabrian Coral Casado), plus the Dutch rider Roos Hoogeboom, a big expert in cobbled races. These days, Bizkaia-Durango will be using for the first time their new ALÉ kit, in which the red and pink tones are the main colors.
