Špela Kern, Slovenian talent for Bizkaia-Durango

The Slovenian rider Špela Kern (02-24-1990) is the newest addition to the 2017 Bizkaia-Durango UCI Women’s Team roster. The 26-year-old, who compited for the BTC City Ljubljana team in the last three seasons, got a lot of great results in international races but she was especially an essential rider for BTC thanks to her teamwork, which led the team to two stage wins at the Route de France.

Kern, a very experienced rider in all kinds of UCI races, is an all-rounder with a big strength in the hardest races of the calendar. That’s why in Bizkaia-Durango she will develop a really important role as a domestique in the most important races of the season.

I am happy and proud of my signing with the Bizkaia-Durango UCI Women’s Team. This is a major step in the right direction for me to become an even better cyclist. I’ll give my best to represent the team with all my energy,” says Špela.

About Kern’s signing, Agurtzane Elorriaga, Bizkaia-Durango’s sports director, stated: “Špela is a rider who, thanks to her guts in the hardest races of the year, will be a key rider for the team, and especially for Mavi to fight for victories. She will be an indispensable rider in the most important races of the season.”
