2017-02-23

Once again, the Bizkaia-Durango UCI Women’s Team will start their season in one of the races which have raised in importance over the last years: the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Flemish 1.1 UCI race.

On Saturday 25th, at 11.30 AM, the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad will start in the city of Ghent, finishing 124.4 kilometers later again in Ghent. The parcours will include the usual ‘traps’ in Belgium roads, such as five cobbled sections and nine oficially categorized hills.

For this first race of the 2017 season, Bizkaia-Durango will be competing with the Basque Lourdes Oyarbide, the Catalan Lorena Llamas, the Andalucian Yessica Pérez, the Dutch Roos Hoogeboom, the Slovenian Špela Kern and theChilean Paola Muñoz.

Before Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, the Bizkaia-Durango sports director, Agurtzane Elorriaga, stated: “The first race of the season is always an important test, especially when we compite in an international race like we have done all these past years. It is useful in order to measure our level in world class races, as well as to see how we can work as a team, something some of the riders have been training lately during the weekends. We are heading to Belgium with a strong squad, with some debuts, but also with a lot of experience. We are looking forward to drawing positive conclusions.”
