2020-08-15

First race of the year in France and top-level result for the Bizkaia-Durango UCI Continental Team. Manxwoman Lizzie Holden ended La Périgord (UCI 1.2) in sixth place, in a race in which the pink riders kept active during the whole day.

Yurani Blanco was the first Bizkaia-Durango rider in the lead, as she got into a breakaway along with Benito (MAT) and Canvelli (BPK) with 27 kilometers to go.

Blanco’s attempt was caught and a new group took the lead: Lizzie Holden got into a eight-woman group with Duval (FDJ), Erath (CSR), Gutiérrez (MOV), Kerbaol (FRA), Levenez (ARK), Pilote-Fortin (MAT) and Zanardi (BPK). Sheyla Gutiérrez took the win, while Lizzie Holden ended up in sixth place confirming her great shape.

Holden: “It’s been a tough race but the team did an awesome work. When I got into the breakaway I knew we could make it to the finish line — it was a top level group! I’m really happy with this performance, it’s always nice to do well in international races. We will keep fighting to be even closer to the wins.”
